Montenegro Pavillion
the artsy side of point clouds

The Project Solana Ulcinj, curated by Bart Lootsma and Katharina Weinberger, was the Montenegrin contribution to the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2016.

The projection as part of the exhibition tries to raise awareness for the particularity of the site Solana Ulcinj.

01
 CONCEPT

We were introduced by our friends at LAAC architects to develop the visual concept and realize an animation.

The core of the animation is a transforming point cloud that shows the transcendence of this landscape structure and facilities.

02
DESIGN PHASE

The footage of the video is based on a 3D laser scan of the entire landscape we took on-site.

By describing both natural and artificial elements with a point cloud, the boundaries between nature and civilisation are constantly blurred.

CONTENT CREATION

Back in office, we pre-processed the pointclouds and cooperated with gorgeous Kathrin Aste on the scene layouts. We did a lot of R+D on the visualization of the raw-data until we found a way to efficiently render out millions of points.

The final films built up a room-scale installation in the pavilion of the state of Montenegro during the Biennale 2016.
